Many AIDS orphans in Africa have no shoes and are forced to go barefoot.

So choose a date to kick off your shoes and collect donations of shoes for AIDS orphans in Africa!

Imagine living a life where your feet are cracked, calloused, and bleeding with no covering, needing to walk miles to go anywhere. In Sub-Saharan Africa there are over 16 million children who have been orphaned as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Most of these children are too poor to afford even the basic needs of life; shoes are a luxury many only dream about.

You could help bring some hope to these desperate children by your participation in the “Barefoot Walk” AIDS orphans fundraiser. Would

you be willing to rally together your youth group, your

friends, and even your church to make this possible? Kick off your own shoes, grab a wheelbarrow, and walk door to door requesting donations in the way of pairs of shoes and a donation of $1.00 per shoe, $2.00 a pair to cover the expense of shipping a huge container to Africa. When you are finished for the day, you can “choose” to slip on your shoes knowing you’ve given that same opportunity to a child overseas.

If you have chosen to put a sole on a child’s foot and a smile on their face would you contact us right away? Please e-mail info@aidsorphans.org and let us know

Your next flight crosses theAtlantic Ocean, Europe, the Mediterranean Sea and then over the Sahara Desert to Addis Ababa,Ethiopia. The team will continue the next morning toDouala, Cameroon.

From Douala your team buses 225 miles north to the Teen Missions in Cameroon BiBle, Missionary, & Work (BMW) Training Center in Nsongwa, located near Bamenda. After a day to repack, you will head six hours into the bush to Cameroon’s newest Rescue Unit in Gom.

The first thing you will notice is hundreds of children running around their modest mud block homes. The needs are great in this area and you will be making a big difference as you wash feet and give these children their first pair of new shoes.

There will be daily opportunities to help the facilitators with medical treatments, to play with the children and read them Bible stories. The medical needs are great in this area as the children often have severe wounds, worms in their feet and knees, skin infections and childhood illnesses. Treatment is as necessary as the hugs and smiles that orphans often do not receive.

Housing will be in tents; bathing and laundry will be done using a bucket. There will be a day of shopping for items to take home as a reminder of your time in Cameroon. On your return to the U.S. you will stop in Rome, Italy for refueling.

Following a day of orientation inMerritt Island, Florida, you will travel to Orlando International Airport to begin your flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Malawi is often referred to as “The Warm Heart of Africa”, and you will know why after spending just a brief time with the people.

A two-hour truck ride will take you from the airport to the base in Chipoka on the shores of Lake Malawi. You will spend a day at the base before driving six hours to your project site in Mangochi. Your project is the construction of a building for use on this new base to establish a witness among the Yao people.

The Yao people are predominately Muslim and our work among the children is opening doors of opportunity for the Gospel. We have already opened the Bible school and now need to construct the dormitories and classroom buildings.

Housing will be in tents and bathing and laundry will be done using a bucket. On the weekends you will have the opportunity to give shoes to needy orphans and also to paddle in hand-carved wooden dugout canoes to visit local villages, providing evangelistic opportunities to share with the people on both Lake Malawi and on the shores of the Shire River.

While in Malawi, you will be traveling to some of the same places that David Livingstone visited when he explored Malawi. There is also a trip planned to Senga Bay where you will have the opportunity to barter for wood carvings, paintings and drums.

We had a Charity Walk with the older orphans and some of the church members at the youth group (average age of 12-20).

The main issue was to help some people who are old or sick and indeed we were privileged that at last we were welcomed. In one home there was an old woman, who completely had nothing in her house for eating; the way she sleeps, oh! You can’t explain, no toilet at home, she uses anywhere in the compound, the whole compound was dirty and smelly in that, if it wasn’t for the grace of God you would never even spend a minute in there. But we felt it was our opportunity now to exercise and show Gods’ love in such a situation and indeed the whole team felt excited because of what we got to do in this old woman’s life. She will recall how God is good. The girls took out all her dirty clothes and her beddings and washed them happily while praising God. Some cooked for her a simple meal, the boys (guys) dug a pit latrine and some went in her garden which was near the home and cut trees to construct it while I took time to talk to her. We really had a good chat in that eventually she gave her life to Christ. We came back home happy and challenged in our hearts.

How many people are out there in such conditions that just need someone to go and show love and see God’s goodness and give their lives to Christ.

From there, an overnight flight takes you to Dakar, Senegal for refueling, proceeding to Johannesburg, South Africa and on toBulawayo, Zimbabwe. You will then travel by land for two hours toMtshabezi, the home of Teen Missions in Zimbabwe.

You will be a tremendous blessing as you assist the Rescue Unit with some needed projects. Due to rampant inflation in the country, it has been difficult for many of the children around our Unit to have uniforms to attend school. You will be sewing school uniforms for these orphans who are eager to go to school and to learn. On the weekends you can assist the facilitators as they treat medical patients.

There will also be ample opportunities for playing games, sharing Bible stories and singing songs with the children. You will be a huge blessing and encouragement to our faithful staff. Enjoy a train trip to Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. These beautiful falls were first discovered by David Livingstone in 1855. View the breathtaking waterfall known as the “Smoke that Thunders”.

Your team will have the opportunity to shop for national arts and crafts, baskets and colorful materials before you fly back toNorth America.

Following orientation this team will fly from the Orlando Interna- tional Airport to Entebbe, the capital of Uganda, via Washington D.C. and Rome, Italy.

From the airport you will travel two hours to Nakabango, near Jinja, home of the Teen Missions in Uganda base and the source of the Nile River, which David Livingstone searched for all his life and never found. After spending a day at the base to repack and rest, you will load your vehicle and travel to the Rescue Units.

You will be using treadle sewing machines to teach both orphans and guardians how to assemble simple patterns, do mending and some handwork. You will be traveling to two areas that have not had the opportunity of having a team from North America visit them.

There will be ample opportunities to interact with the orphans, who are eager to learn new songs, hear Bible stories and watch you doing your daily activities. You will have the opportunity to shop for local arts and crafts before returning to the States.

225 miles north to Bamenda, home of the Teen Missions in Cameroon base.

You will be so blessed by the opportunity to serve orphans by washing their feet and giving them a pair of shoes. After a day organizing the shoes and repacking your bags, you will travel four hours from the base into the remote bush to minister at the Rescue Units. During your journey you will witness the beauty and diversity that Cameroon has to offer as you travel to each Unit location.

Make a difference in the lives of these children as you wash their feet and put a clean pair of socks and shoes on them. The gift of these shoes will prove invaluable in preventing sores and infections as well as protecting their feet during long walks to school. You will also enjoy helping with a needed building project at one of the Units, sharing Bible stories, helping assist the facilitators with treating medical needs, playing games, singing songs, hugging and loving these dear orphans.

NOTE: Your personal luggage will be limited to what you can pack into a Teen Missions-issued carryon bag and 10 pounds for your sleeping gear. You can purchase soaps, shampoos and other items in the country. The rest of the weight limit is needed to take over the socks and shoes.

Following orientation you fly from the Orlando International Airport to Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi via Washington D.C. and Rome, Italy. Malawi is often referred to as the “warm heart of Africa”, and you will know why after spending just a brief time with the people.

After getting supplies at the Teen Missions in Malawi base, you journey up into the beautiful Dedza Mountains and join the Christian Union Motorcycle Sunday School Mission (MSSM) Circuit. This is an area where David Livingstone explored and not too far away was the first missionary settlement called Livingstonia.

You will minister alongside the MSSM missionaries and help by sewing school uniforms for the children sponsored by this Rescue Unit, as well as assisting them with their Sunday school lessons and crafts. You will also journey to our newest Yao base in Mangochi on the other side of Lake Malawi. You will help with the ongoing con- struction of this new base and help the facilitators in assisting the orphans and villagers with their medical needs.

Your presence will help to bring the light of the Gospel to this dark area in “the devil’s backyard”. There is little Christian witness among the Yao people and you will be a blessing as you help us strive toward the goal of opening a Bible school and seeing people won to Christ.
